Aircraft pipelines usually use two types of torches: single and double torches. [Figure 7-7 (A and B)] The torch is often subjected to extremely high pressure; Therefore, the flared mouth on the tubing must be correctly shaped or the connection will leak or fail. Bell mouth too small will lead to weak joint, may leak or pull; If too large, it will interfere with the correct engagement of the threads on the joint and will cause leakage. Curved flares are the result of pipes not being cut vertically. If the bell is not made correctly, the defect cannot be corrected by applying additional torque when tightening the joint. Flares and piping must be free of cracks, dents, nicks, scratches or any other defects.
