Tube flaring,Piping flaring and piping flanging are accomplished through a very similar process, but are often used for different purposes.
Both forms are produced by pressing molds into the open end of the pipe. Depending on the material, the amount of flaring or flanging is limited by the wall thickness. A typical increase in outer diameter is 30-40%, but other results can be achieved if special requirements are required. Different materials have different reactions during the molding process.
Tube flaring can be automated to achieve greater capacity. This makes parts cheaper and leads to shorter turnaround times.
Manual processes are recommended for small batches or parts that require multiple flaring processes.
